Activity: Visit to Ocean Road Cancer Institute (ORCI).

Introduction 

As part of QnB Law’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, for the first half of 2026, the Firm’s staff visited cancer patients at Ocean Road Cancer Institute (ORCI) on 27th June 2026. The initiative formed part of the Firm’s ongoing commitment to giving back to the community through meaningful social engagement. 

Prior to the visit, Ms. Jackline Lucas Ndanga (Associate at QnB Law) contacted the Institute to determine how the Firm could best support the hospital and cancer patients. She met with the Social Worker in charge, Ms. Devotha Kovaga, who explained the challenges facing cancer patients and advised on the most appropriate ways to support them. Following the meeting, the necessary arrangements were made with the Institute, including obtaining permission to visit the patients.  

Preparation for the Visit 

The permission letter was accompanied by a list of items recommended by the hospital for donation. These included adult diapers, fruits, and milk. In addition, the hospital also issued control numbers through which the Firm made a financial contribution towards the treatment of cancer patients. 

Prior to the visit, the donated items were packed into individual gift bags to enable each patient to receive a care package.  

The Visit 

On the day of the visit, the Firm’s staff arrived at ORCI at approximately 10:00 a.m., where they were received by Ms. Devotha Kovaga, the Institute’s Social Worker. Ms. Kovaga escorted the team to Block D, Floors 2 and 3, where patients were admitted. The adult diapers were handed over to the Nurse-in-Charge, after which the team visited the wards and personally distributed the prepared care packages to the patients. The patients expressed their appreciation for the visit and the support extended to them. 

Acknowledgement 

Upon completion of the visit and distribution of the care packages, the hospital management expressed its appreciation for the Firm’s contribution. In return, we thanked them for granting us the opportunity to visit the patients and for their cooperation throughout the exercise. 

The visit also provided an opportunity for the Firm’s staff to engage directly with members of the community and gain a greater appreciation of the challenges faced by cancer patients and their families. It served as a meaningful reminder of the importance of compassion, gratitude and giving back. 

Conclusion 

The visit was a rewarding experience for everyone involved and reaffirmed the Firm’s commitment to supporting the community through meaningful CSR initiatives. The Firm looks forward to continuing similar engagements in the future.
